Pompey to rekindle interest in Petrov

Are Pompey about to increase their offer for Celtic midfielder Stilian Petrov.  It was looking like Pompey would miss out on Petrov after Celtic rejected Pompey's last £5million bid but former chairman insisted Pompey still admire the Bulgarian midfielder and may yet considering increasing their offer.

Former Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric told the BBC: "We offered £5m before and they turned us down and asked for £7m. We thought we'd offered a fair price.

"We are going to look at the situation in the next 48 hours. We would love to have him. He's a superb player."

Earlier in the week Celtic manager Gordon Strachan admitted discussing a possible deal for Petrov with former Celtic and new Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill.

Strachan said: "Anyone can make bids. It's down to the board whether they accept or not.

"If Stilian feels he has a good offer and we accept the transfer fee then fine. But until then the status quo remains."

Hopefully something will be sorted out soon, although Pompey looked class during their first performance Pompey could would still welcome more players while I would love to see Petrov at Fratton Park, I would want to see a new striker more.
