With the opening of the winter transfer window almost upon us transfer rumours involving Portsmouth are inevitable, however this year there seem to be more rumours as to who will leave Pompey rather than who will arrive at Fratton Park.
Possible Departures
Dean Kiely
The one most of us have been expecting is goalkeeper Dean Kiely, with the signing of David James during the summer Kiely has hardly featured for Portsmouth and is currently out on loan at Luton. Talking on Sky Sport's Soccer AM this morning
"I think a few things might be happening. Pompey need to play ball also, but I just want things to happen really so I can move on and put myself with someone where I can play."
"I don't really know," he added, "When I initially went on loan it was to play some games and see what happens. It's a bit of an adventure."
It's not known if any club has made a firm offer, but rumours point to West Brom or staying at Luton as possible destinations. With some of Kiely's recent comments about how badly he has been treated by the club his departure does seem likely.
Andy O'Brien
Meant to be the subject of interest from former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy, who has been reported to have made a £250,000 bid to bring him to Wolves. With Portsmouth short on central defenders I personally wouldn't see this happening unless Harry signs more cover in that department especially if the next rumour has legs.
Sol Campbell
Current champions Chelsea have been reported as being interested in Sol Campbell, with John Terry out for up to around 9 weeks after his back surgery Jose Mourinho is looking for quality to help strengthen the rather weak selection of central defenders Chelsea have at the moment until Terry's return. A bid has been rejected already by Portsmouth according to the Daily Express. While I wouldn't want Campbell to leave as replacing him no matter what Chelsea pay would be almost impossible I think we could be tempted by a bid that involved Glen Johnson coming the other way on a permanent deal.
Possible Arrivals
It wouldn't be a transfer window without Harry being linked with the world and his dog, but this year with Pompey flying high we may be able to attract the kind of players we attempted to sign during the summer who may now see Pompey as a good place to come. With so little money being spent during the summer what kind of war chest will we have?
Glen Johnson
The Chelsea right back currently impressing on loan at Fratton Park, Redknapp has already made it clear he would love to sign him on a permanent deal however there are question marks over the current crop of right back's at Chelsea that Mourinho may opt to reject any offers to see if Johnson has the quality to be the first choice at Chelsea next season. If a deal is possible it would need to be around 6million to tempt Chelsea to sell.
Peter Crouch
Rumours are surfacing today that Redknapp may be looking to bring back the striker he showed the exit door when he first took over as manager at Portsmouth, so could Peter Crouch be on Pompey's shopping list? Well he's not been a first choice at for Liverpool this season but with a price tag of £12 million and Rafael Benitez reluctant to sell however Liverpool seem to be targeting Spanish striker David Villa such a signing could allow Crouch to leave.
David Nugent
No matter how many times Harry denies this one it keeps coming back, however £5million for an unproven Premiership striker may stop any bid also Preston are currently in an automatic promotion position and would be unlikely to sell a player that's helping keep them in the promotion chase.
Robert Earnshaw
Another Championship striker Redknapp has an interest in is Norwich's Robert Earnshaw, and like Nugent the price tag of a striker that isn't proven in the Premiership could put off Harry from making a bid. However unlike Nugent's Preston Norwich are unlikely to get promoted this year so may choose to cash in on one of the Championship's leading scorers.
I like Earnshaw, he has done well and has always scored goals," said Redknapp.
"His record is pretty good and he is a natural goalscorer.
"Norwich will probably want good money for him though. You look at Nugent, who I like - £5million is a lot of money.
"Where can you find strikers? It is hard and it will be tough to get someone here to make us a better team.
"It is always a gamble, you can get someone for a million and they do not perform, or you can get Kanu who costs nothing and scored nine goals.
"Look at the players Chelsea have brought in for millions and millions. Some have been great, but some have not quite come off."
