  • Did Toddy deserve better?

Former Pompey striker Svetoslav Todorov has today declared how unhappy he was with the contract offer that Pompey made and felt he deserved more after five years of loyal service. Toddy decided against staying at Pompey instead joining relegated Charlton Athletic.

Talking to The Daily Mail "The final reason why I left is there was not a big effort to keep me."

"I know I gave everything for this club in the time I was there. I helped Portsmouth into the Premiership and I helped keep them there but the club made me a really poor offer.

"The statistics prove I deserved something better. I thought I should have had a deserving contract. I've always given 100 per cent and never disappointed.

"It's about being valued. The club made no effort in my view. I could have gone away from the club when they were in a hard time but I didn't move.

"Is it the right decision to move on now? I don't know. We'll see. There are no hard feelings from me, though. I really appreciate all the support I was given. The fans don't know how much their support means to me.

"I have spent a big part of my career with Portsmouth so it is hard to leave. But sometimes hard decisions have to be made."

While the former West Ham striker was great for us in our Championship winning season, a serious injury ruled him out for our first Premiership season and he has been a bit part player ever since. While the fans have always had a soft spot for him he never recreated his Championship form, he hardly even featured at Wigan when we loaned him out. Even during our striker crisis last year Harry chose not to make him a regular.

Considering that he was given a new contract after his injury when other clubs would have let him go then proves Pompey did stand by him. Much as I would love to have kept him here, if Harry think he isn't even going to make the squad on a regular basis then I imagine Pompey's contract offer reflected that.

While it was sad to see him go, I think it was time for him to move on, especially after our 2 new striker signings he would be at most fourth choice striker. Let's hope he can score a hat full of goals in the Championship and perhaps prove Pompey wrong but I feel he just wouldn't have been given the chance he wanted.

  • Nugent deal not as dead as we thought

The Preston North End official site are reporting that David Nugent will not be at training today but is returned to Fratton Park for further talks with Pompey with a view to a transfer.

The striker had been recalled to training at Preston after it had been thought a deal was not going to happen.

Let's hope this situation is resolved one way or another soon.

  • Give me 5 games and I guarantee goals - Lualua

Pompey striker Lomana Lualua is guaranteeing to score if given the chance, and that he has put the problems of last season behind him and wants to start the new campaign with a clean slate.

Talking to The News Lualua said "Give me five games and I guarantee I will play to a level everyone knows I can.  And I know if I'm fully fit I can score the goals."

"Two seasons ago I proved that.  I have shown people.  I scored four goals in four games in the Great Escape.  People forget that."

"Last Season Toddy was the best finisher at the club.  What he can do in front of goal I will probably not do as well, but I know I can hit the back of the net."

"I had my problems last season.  My mind was not right in the sense that I was not fit as I could have been and had a few injuries."

"It was frustrating and there's no-one more frustrated than me.  At the end of the day you just want to play football and that didn't happen last year."

"It was a shame.  I barely played up front with Benji.  We didn't even have a chance to work as a partnership.  I think we can get goals together though."

"I belive in myself, I have faith.  Five games in a row and I guarantee I will hit my best form and get the goals Portsmouth needs."

Lualua also feels that the clubs new record signing midfielder Sulley Muntari will help the strikers perform better this season.

"Sulley plays forward all the time.  He can play the deadly ball, the killer pass, and I'm sure the goals can come for me and the other strikers."

With no strikers currently signed during the window and Toddy leaving to Charlton earlier in the week Pompey may need Lualua to make good on this promise.
