Utaka deal moves closer?

Could forward / midfielder John Utaka about to leave Fratton Park? If reports on local radio station The Quay are anything to be belived then a deal has almost been done with reports from France suggesting Ligue One side Lille have agreed a fee of around 8 million euros (£6.3 million) with Pompey for the Nigerian.

With reports of Utaka originally being brought in for around £7 million, this could see us take a loss on a player that was considered at the time to be our record signing.

Utaka has consistently failed to perform since joining Pompey 12 months ago from French side Rennes, so a departure may not be a bad thing, however with the midfield already weakened by the departures of Mendes and Muntari can we afford another to leave?

Redknapp playing Diop out on the right could indicate that Utaka isn't in Harry's future plans and he could intend cashing in on the player.

Personally unless Harry has gotten someone guaranteed ready to join Pompey who can play in the same kind of positions if he gets the money, then sell otherwise we still need him.

I dont think Utaka has a future at Fratton Park as a forward with Crouch and Defoe being the prefered pair up front, but as a winger and backup striker he serves a very useful purpose.

We are hardly in a great state on the wings even with him here.
