Traore: Pompey Over Newcastle

Portsmouth’s latest signing Armand Traore has revealed he turned down six clubs to join Portsmouth including Man City and Newcastle. Traore told The News:

'I had Sunderland, Manchester City, Newcastle, Stoke, Hull and West Ham interested in me. As soon as I heard Portsmouth, though, I wanted to come here.

'It would have been nice to stay in London but I prefer Portsmouth to West Ham. It's great so many clubs were interested, I'm happy about that because it means people look.

'I had heard a few rumours about Portsmouth before the summer and then they got real in the last few weeks. I will definitely get experience if I play every week and travelling with the team.

'It's what I need really, I couldn't get much at Arsenal. I'm very happy to be here and happy I am going to play more football at Portsmouth than Arsenal.

'That's why I chose to come here.'

He joined Arsenal from Monaco back in 2005 for an undisclosed fee. Traore could go straight into the team on the left side of midfield due to an injury to Niko.

I was thinking the same thing, after all its not just a random story with no quotes, this is what the player said.

Traore is a great prospect and I'm not surprised he had several clubs after him, just shows that Pompey has pulling power.

Im a newcastle fan, but to be fair, he would of been used as back up for us anyway. I dont think too many clubs will be disappointed with missing out on him, apart from stoke and hull.

Think he will be a cracking signing. Interesting if the rumours of him taking the place of krancar in midfield since that was why we signed Thomas.

Lets hope the krancar not playing rumours are due to injury and not that he is about to be sold.

Not too bothered to be honest. Fab Colo a much better signing. Don't think Man City will care either having secured Ben Haim and Kompany with Dunne and Richards already where would Traore play? Pompey definately need some help in defence if they're going to get that 5th place they're aiming for.
