Do you really want Harry sacked?
On my way into work this morning I was listening to Talk Sport and apart from having to listen to their very one sided view on last nights game, they were getting quite a few emails and texts from (I would assume) Pompey fans saying that the start to this season is unacceptable and that Portsmouth should sack Harry Redknapp.
Personally I was quite surprised by this, I know that some people have never forgiven him for going to Southampton, but he has given us the best seasons in most of our life times, and a certain section of Pompey fans want him to be sacked because of two defeats to the best teams in the country?
Yes we've had a bad start, last weeks mauling against Chelsea was not up to the standard we would expect, last night against Manchester United wasn't the best performance I've seen as a Pompey fan, but it was a definite improvement on Chelsea.
We always knew the first few games would be difficult, next Saturday we are away at Everton, again not an easy game, and we could potentially still be bottom of the Premier League with 3 games played and no points, but surely it's not time to push the panic button yet is it?

There are a lot of people who think they know what is best for Pompey a lot of them are short sighted and have expectations that are too high. I agree the result at checlski was not what we are used too but there were good signs last night from certain players like Kaboul, Traore, Thomas also Diop had his best game for a very long time. I still think we need a creative midfielder to compliment diaara and learn how to play the ball to crouch's feet as we looked much better when we did this as opposed to lumping up front

It is absolutely ridiculous to want want him sacked. We have lost to Manu and Chelsea - most teams will. The balance of the side is wrong, but redknapp knows this. Theres a few new players and they take time to gel.
Give it time, and give it a few games against lesser opposition.
-
Are you serious?! How anyone that is a real supporter of the club can even listen to such rubbish leaves me silenced!
Harry is the best thing to happen to our club, support him do not knock him! PUP

Just to clarify, I dont think Harry should be sacked, far from it. I'm actually shocked that people are even thinking it, let alone telling a national radio station.
Saying that I dont think anyone will come on here and actually admit they want Harry sacked, after everything that happened last season.
However if anyone who did email Talk Sport this morning, I think the one read out was a Pat from Gosport does want to explain why they feel like that I (and I imaging most Pompey fans) would want to know why.
-
your having a laugh Harry's the best thing that has happened to us since thirties. A case of scummers in disguise have a little faith its only two blooming games
-
these so called fans who want harry sacked should hold there heads in shame, call yourself pompey fans,i dont think so.
-
I would be suprised if any sane Pompey fans would want this. Again i suspect Southampton fans playing up.
Time and games against non-top four teams are more of an indicator.
-
Interestingly they were also getting quite a few emails about Spurs fans wanting their manager sacked, again only lost 2 games, won a trophy last season. Quite a few parallels to Pompey there.
However they seem to be in meltdown, loosing to two at most mid table teams, the whole Berbatov situation, reports that Ramos lost the dressing room last season, I can see that being a sacking after all thats why Jol went. I dont see any of that here.

Read an article in the Daily Mail which was basically saying that Redknapp will go to West Ham and Avram will be our new manager (was backed up with pictures of Sacha and Avram from last night).
Personally, I would like to think it's all rubbish. Why should Harry fear for his job after just two games, especially because they were against the top two teams in the country, and possibly the world at the moment. Good things come to those who wait :)
-
Did you hear Harry's gaffe in the pre-game interview though?
"We are going to get amongst them and treat it like a cup tie, like we always do at Upton Park," could his mind be elsewhere?
-
I was suprised at the Atmosphere last night and think something needs to be addressed quickly.
Apparently for safety reasons the drums and John Westwood were moved to the back of the Fratton end, then during the second half Westwood was asked to 'not ring his bell so much'!!! This is worrying because the atmosphere and singing is generally kept up by those guys, mad as they may seem sometimes. You take them away and the place will become quiet. Interesting to know peoples views on this.
-
That is absoloutley pathetic! We have had a HARSH 2 opening fixtures, you can not blame Harry for this. People who are saying this are not Portsmouth fans, or True Portsmouth fans. When do you see a team like Portsmouth win their 2 opening fixtures against 2 of the best teams in europe..
When you see a team do that, then moan about the manager.
Grow up, thats all i have to say.
-
I was watching on TV last night and didn't hear Westwood's bell once.
I was also surprise how much I heard the United fans, thats something that doesnt normally happen at Fratton Park, the Fratton Faithful letting the other teams fans sing.
It could be a change in positioning of the mikes around the pitch, although those at the game would be able to comment more.
-
The comments here reflect the reality. Pompey fans do not want rid of Harry - end of.
-
This is an outrage. Short sighted fans should go and ply their trade down the road. This club of ours has achieved more in the last 3-5 years than we could ever have dreamed. People calling for Harry's head can only be glory hunters who have only supported the club in the prem. The man is a legend and the team will be top ten again. PUP.

portsmouth need to play down the wings if they want to get the best out of crouch, i would sell kranjcar and buy wright phillips this would bring more pace into the team.. and whoever is ringing up about sacking harry does not know about football..
-
I was at the game last night with my two boys and there was a definite lack in singing considering that it was united we were playing.
You could hear the drums the first half (albeit quieter) but half way through the first half it all seemed to go quiet and the 12th man was lost! Even tried to stir support ourselves as did a few pockets of fans but John and his 'band' are true leaders of Fratton end and their absence was greatly noticed. Come back John.
Harry is a brilliant manager and knows what he's doing. Give him a break or we'll loose him for good.
-
Without Harry we would be no where near where we are football wise. These fans should think about who else is out there to manage should he feel like going (due to lack of financial clout) !
The support last night was ok to start with but alot of the fans now go to watch rather than support and this is taking its toll on the atmosphere - They / We need to buck our ideas up and get behind the team
-
The fact is we now have lost 6 games in a row in the Prem... Harry has spend a lot of money on Nugent/Utaka etc and neither has come good. I prefer to wait until xmas but he could go.
Hopefully JW will come back, without the bell;-)
-
Harry is the best thing to happen to PFC. I can't believe any Pompey fan would want him sacked. Crazy.
-
your all playing into a sad scummers hand by even talking about it, its obviously one or two of their lot up the road trying to remember what its like in the top flight, remember what happened last time they played manchester utd
-
The ManU fans were clearly more audible because the Milton End roof now amplifies away supporters.
John Portsmouth Football Club Westwood left the ground early during the second half distraught after being approached by stewards asking that he stopped ringing his bell (and that's after having been moved to the back of the Fratton End after 10 years due to "health & safety" issues!
Good grief! WTF are Portsmouth Football Club staff trying to do? Think the new Stadium Manager needs to be sacked ... come back Mick Coleman ...
