Barton : Pompey want me

Newcastle hard man Joey Barton is claiming that should Newcastle United get rid of him Pompey will be there to snap him up.

After being released from prison on 28th July Barton has started to make his way back in to the Toon starting line up, however he is not happy that the club has tried to drop his wages and considered releasing him from his contract.

A club insider told The Sun: "Joey has told his team-mates Portsmouth will have him if Newcastle don't want him any more. He is very confident."

With Pompey seemingly having no funds for transfers I doubt a deal would be done this window however if Barton became available on a free would we want him?

For Gods sake! After deliberately crocking Mendes at FP, Harry must really be losing it it if he would consider this basket case. A very unpopular move with the fans. What is PFC coming to?

you could say the same thing about di canio when harry signed him for west ham,but harry being harry knows how to treat players and i for one think it would be a good move for us to get him,one he is still young, and i think he has learn t his lesson after his stint in prison

Why would we want this thug at our club, He shouldn't be allowed to play sunday league football let alone premiership. I for one would be extremely dissapointed if Harry did this deal. We have far more professional players here, we don't want him.

As for crouch saying everyman has a fight... not every man stubs a lit cigar out in the eye of a teenager./..get real....

That would be a move that had the utmost bad taste attached to it!

After Mendes @ Fratton which at least was football related - nearly!

    And

His outside fracas with the law has to be enough to say NO THANKYOU!

Even Arry would laugh at this surely!?

It is The Sun that reports the "story", there are no direct quotes yet the gullible suddenly think the thug is heading to FP.

For me the Arsenal fans got it right yesterday, with their chants of "scum, scum, scum" when he came on for Newcastle - the man is a piece of trash who thinks earning a bit of money makes him someone.  Someone mentioned that we all make mistakes, which I agree with, but not repeatedly and to the detriment of other people's health.

The thug is no more welcome at FP than McMenemy, Benali and Diouf.
